Claremont Hero’s Needs Your Help…
By Tisza Major-Posner | July 27, 2007
Hi All,
If you drove down Indian Hill Boulevard last year for eight weeks starting with Veteran’s day, you probably noticed the banners lining the streets saluting our city’s current and former veterans. Claremont Hero’s is responsible for the banners. But Claremont Hero’s needs our help to expand their program.
It costs $250 to sponsor a banner which will be reused each year that the family or the service person allows it to be displayed. Claremont Hero’s currently needs $2500 to meet their goal for the banners that they wish to add this year.
Claremont Hero’s has a special place in my family’s heart because last year for the first time my husband’s son (and my oldest stepson) Scott Swanberg was one of the people honored. Scott is a sargeant in the U.S. Army, he is also a newlywed (he and his wife got married last November just days after he returned home from Iraq) and he is about to become a first time daddy.
Seeing the banner flying above Claremont High School on Indian Hill Boulevard when he was still serving in Iraq, for the eight weeks that it was displayed, was like he was waving to us as we drove by. It made him feel a little less far away and it was wonderful to see his commitment and the commitment all the other honorees have made past and present honored in so public a way.
You may also nominate a service man or woman, past or present, active or retired to be honored with a banner. There is not cost to the honoree or their family for their inclusion in the program as all the funding comes from private donations.
Please consider helping Claremont Hero’s in any way you can. For more information you can contact Debra Mendelsohn the founder at (909) 641-5758
or check out their website www.claremontheros.com
Take care,
