Inka Trails Lead Right To Claremont

    By Tisza Major-Posner | June 8, 2007

    Inka Trails SignHi All,

Today I went with my hubby Mel to Inka Trails, one of the best restaurants I have ever been to, and believe me; I have been to a lot of restaurants. When I was a kid my mom was not much of a cook, in our house homemade meant she used a manual can opener and gourmet meant she heated it, so we ate out a lot.

Mel and I had passed by this place a hundred times, and both of us had considered eating there “sometime” but hadn’t discussed it. Mel tends to be a tad pickier an eater than I am and he tends to want to stick to foods that are safe, which generally means things he has already tried and knows that he likes. But today was the day, and a wonderful day it was.

Inka Trails is Peruvian cuisine. Inka Trails is great Peruvian cuisine. What an amazing find this restaurant is right here in beautiful Claremont, located right on Foothill Boulevard which used to be Historic Route 66. We started our lunch off with Chicha Morada - a sort Peruvian fruit punch with fresh apple pieces, cinnamon and other spices. Chicha Morada
It is not sweet like most American style drinks are, rather it is more like Jamica a Mexican fruit drink, but it is refreshing, and well worth trying. The also have Inka Kola which I already have on my radar for my next visit.

I tried their Beef Empanada’s, which are spiced meat turnovers. Delicious. I also ordered Yucca Frita (Fried cassava) which is anything but. It tastes a bit like potato but without the starch. I also ordered Plantano or Fried Plantains which are a banana like fruit. I happen to love them and totally understand why Elvis wanted his bananas fried when he had a peanut butter and banana sandwich but I digress.

    Appetizers

We also ordered Antichucho Mixto which is two skewers of a combo of beef, chicken, shrimp and fish that have been marinated before cooking. This is considered an appetizer, but would make a fine meal all by itself, especially because it comes with potatoes and a small salad.

Mel also ordered Aji de Gallina which is shredded chicken in a walnut gravy sauce sprinkled with parmesan cheese and served with white rice. It was like nothing I’ve ever tried before, mildly spicy but not hot spicy, just flavorful and truly delicious.

We were pretty stuffed by the end, the servings are very generous, but I had to try their homemade Flan and boy, was I glad I did. It was probably one of the best I have ever tasted.

Inka Trails is worth the drive if you are out of town and worth a try if you are here. Located at 1077 W. Foothill Boulevard, Claremont on the corner of Foothill and Towne. They do cater and also will prepare food to go. Their phone number is (909) 626-4426 and their fax is (909) 626-7792.

Give this wonderful Claremont eatery a try; you will be glad you did. I sure was. And be sure to tell them that Tisza the Realtor sent you.

Take care all, help lots of people and have a wonderful day!
