The Internet Revolution - Which Side Is Your Agent On?

    By Tisza Major-Posner | May 18, 2007

    Hi All,

Let me start by saying that I am tech savvy and I love the Internet. Clearly, if you are reading this post, you are tech savvy and enjoy it too.

Lately, I have been learning a great deal about how to better utilize the Internet for myself and for my clients. I have also been sharing what I am learning with my friends, some of whom are agents and some who are not. And this is what inspired today’s post.

Talking about the Internet Revolution and how this medium has totally changed and continues to change the Real Estate industry is almost undervaluing its importance. the Internet Revolution has changed how buyer’s shop for Real Estate (Realtor.com, anyone?), how seller’s get a idea of what their property might be worth (Zillow don’cha know) and how agent’s market their listings. At least it has for most people, but not for all of them.

Not a day goes by when I don’t meet agents, both new and well established, who are not as tech savvy as their clients are. My question is: “Why would someone choose to work with a representative who is going to be helping them make one of the biggest financial decisions of their life, but is not up on how today’s business is being done?”

Today’s consumer deserves, and has every right to expect, that when the hire a Real Estate Agent to help them with their buying or selling needs, they will be working with someone who will leave no stone unturned, old or new, in their pursuit of the best, most accurate, most up-to-date and most effective methods available to help them achieve their goals.

We don’t chisel our messages on stone tablets, hunt with spears, or live in caves anymore. But working with a Real Estate Agent who is not truly and demonstratably tech savvy, one who does not know or choose to know, how to use every tool currently available, is the business equivilent of chasing down dinosaur’s for dinner.

The business is pretty well divided. And it is not difficult to see who is really cutting edge and who is just cutting up. Who is in the game and who is at the snack bar. Who is part of the Internet Revolution and who is standing on the sidelines watching the parade pass them by.

That being said… I now ask the question, “Which side is your agent on?”

Take care all, help lots of people and have a wonderful day! Oh, and if you have any questions, ideas or comments, please don’t hesitate to share.

Great Blog Tisza, and SO true. Technology is changing daily, and it can be an uphill climb to keep up, but it’s worth it!

Tizsa, it’s sad. Some agents in my area with more than 15 years top production are working second jobs. They failed to keep up with Internet basic, including email.
